2019 Fashion Brand of the Year, Barjis, presents a curated fashion event to showcase and celebrate 20 years in fashion.
Founder of BARJIS, Vivienne Westwood protegé Barjis Chohan, will be revealing new work, as well as honouring pieces from the archives. Also on show will be her own wedding dress, designed personally as part of her Masters at Central St.Martins College of Art & Design.
Today the Barjis brand enjoys international acclaim, and has won many awards. Take a step back through time, experience the journey – explore the failures as well as the successes – and find out what made Barjis into the Designer, entrepreneur, speaker and businesswoman she is today.
Discuss the internal conflict she faced positioning her brand and also give recognition to the challenges overcome along the way. One question endures: how can we be defined without being confined? This persistant self-inquiry has led to the realisation that Barjis is an Inbetweener. The Inbetweener dips beautifully between the mainstream and Asian market, not adopting one culture to fit the other and without feeling confined to choosing either.
The curation will have iconic pieces that have shaped the label, whilst finding that unique position within the market place. It has been a struggle – but the event will celebrate those struggles, as they have ultimately helped to shape Barjis’s success.
Barjis’s constant defiance of market trends, and determination to do things the right way, rather than following the crowd, has established a reputation as the silent underdog of the fashion industry, and cemented a reputation for being true, authentic and working with integrity.
An exclusive preview night (invite only) for Barjis Chohan’s guests and the media, will be followed by general admission, open to the public. A small number of tickets are also available to the public for the preview evening, on a first come first served basis.
Limited-edition part-recycled notebooks will be on sale at the event, containing offcuts of fabrics used by Barjis in her collections. These will be available to purchase at a 20% discount for all visitors. The profits from sales of the notebook will be invested in Barjis Chohan’s charity – The Barjis Initiative.
This exhibition is the first in a road show of ground-breaking events, to include Birmingham, Karachi, and New York.
